Bird Rescue Steps
Evaluate the situation using the chart "Help I've found a baby Bird"
Check for injuries and stop any bleeding using corn starch or flour. Birds have a poor sense of smell- the parents will return to accept the bird despite touching it.
Secure the bird in an animal carrier or cage. If you cannot find one, a cardboard box with holes will suffice. Be sure to put a perch or towel down so the bird has something to grip onto.
Provide a heat source for the bird. Put a heat pad on low down or use 'Hot Hands'. See DIY Heat source below for homemade options.
Join the Hawai`i Bird Rescue Facebook group and make a post of the bird including:
A picture of the bird
Your location
If you need a foster or mentor
Whether you can transport the bird and the time frame you can meet someone.
Always wash your hands thoroughly after handling the bird.
