Adopt or Foster a Chicken!

In the event where we have a bird that cannot be released back into the wild or a domestic bird who’s owner could not be relocated within 6 months, they are put up for adoption here.

Please fill out this form if you are interested in Adopting!

Email the completed form to HawaiiBirdRescue@gmail.com

  • Although we try our best to release all birds to their rightful place, jungle fowl (or wild chickens) found sometimes have lifelong injuries or are too friendly to survive in the wild. We also have the occasional ‘fighter’ chicken found that is too aggressive to be released or with other chickens.

Often times, we also get domestic chickens turned into our organization and simply do not have the space.

  • You can help us foster a bird of your choice! Email us an application but specify in the body of the email that you aren’t ready for an adoption quite yet.

Even if it is only for 1-3 days, every bit helps!

  • Foster! Give the bird a test run and see if it’s right for your family. We ask that you foster for a minimum of 2-4 weeks to ensure the bird is not shuffled around into too many different environments.

  • We are donation based only. The adoption fee varies from bird to bird.

  • Don’t worry, we can help! We will be there to guide you every step of the way. Any question- big or small we can try our best to help you get the answers you need!

Chicken Adoptions / Fosters

  • Marlee

    Age: 10 months

    Marlee is about 80% blind.

Favorite activities: flying into the wall, getting stuck behind doors, eating the air to let me know he is hungry, seeing ghosts?

He's an indoor rooster. Cuddles, talks, does crow but just go "MARLEE" and he stops and sits down.

I am rehoming him because his friend died and I noticed he seems anxious now. I'd like for someone to be able to have more time for him than I can provide.

    He likes cheese 🧀

  • Jack

Urgent… FOREVER home needed for Jack.

Jack needs a home with someone with experience. He is a retired fighting rooster… one leg was amputated. And his multiple punctures and cuts are healing. Jack is aggressive towards humans (rightly so) but is wonderful with other chickens. With time, love, and patience he can become a wonderful pet. In the short time that he’s been with our rehabber he has begun to purr… and mingle with the other chickens. We even have a prosthetic leg on its way!

He's a fighting rooster. Not a feral taught to fight but a legit bred to fight rooster. He's over eight pounds, but cannot be released due to his disability.

Do you have room? Do you have experience? This guy needs a safe, loving place to call home. Please reach out if you can help!

  • Romeo

Meet Romeo - a very sweet, very blind Roo.

Romeo is able to eat on his own if you let him know where the food and water is via noise. He spends his days outside in the sun, in a smaller pen with friends and loves to fill up on grass and whatever he can find. He currently sleeps inside on a comfy chair next to me every night. It’s best to keep food and water in the same place consistently so he can find it.

Romeo needs a forever home, do you have room in your heart and home for him?

  • Count Cluckula, The Count

    Name: Count Cluckula, The Count

    Found: Being dumped

Wounds: throat slit and scalped due to dubbing. Eye ulcerated to the point it was a solid form of pus.

Issues: Underweight (severe), only has one eye.

Doesn't crow much, seems good with other chickens and roosters including our handicap rooster. Submissive towards dominant roosters. Needs a lot of time to eat and continue to heal.
